Get Ready To Pull Down Those Air Potato Vines

Posted by Trish Riley, January 18, 2009

Gainesville’s gorgeous tree canopy is in a constant danger of being destroyed by the invasive air potato vines that creep up the trees and suffocate them with fast-growing, smothering vines. Winter is the best time to pull down these heart-shaped leaves, vines, and their proliferative roots – the air potatoes they drop everywhere in an attempt to spread new plants. Alachua County’s Nature Operations Division partners with the Florida Exotic Pest Plant Council in hosting the 10th Annual Great Air Potato Roundup on Saturday, Jan. 31.
