Gainesville Set to Lead the Nation with Solar FIT

Posted by Trish Riley, February 11, 2009
Gainesville can take great pride as we move toward developing a solar program that will be a first in the nation to develop solar power in a way that residents and businesses can benefit along with GRU, our city-owned community utility company. The feed-in tariff (FIT) program will allow utility users to install solar power generating equipment and to benefit by selling the power generated to our utility company to supplement area energy supplies. Solar power systems will earn money back from the utility to help make the investment in the equipment a valuable investment for those who wish to participate. Gainesville resident Harald Kegelman, owner of Advanced Solar Technologies, brought the program, well-established in his native Germany,  to the attention of city commissioners. Kegelman attended our Green Drinks Gainesville to bring attendees up to speed on the program. It’s a big winner and we give GREEN KUDOS to Kegelman! Three cheers for Gainesville as we move into the future as a leader of sustainability!
