KUDOS, ALACHUA COUNTY!

An exhaustive study of how to save energy and an innovative program to place college students as interns in county and city government has earned Alachua County two awards from the Florida City and County Manager’s Association.

The Energy Conservation Strategies Commission project won the Community Sustainability Award. The commission was created by the County Commission and returned a report outlining ways the county can reduce energy costs, create green jobs and reduce its carbon footprint.

The “All Across Alachua County Student Internship Program” won the Program Excellence Award for Community Partnership. The program places University of Florida students in internship positions within county and city governments where they can learn the roles of different forms of government.
