Study Reinforces Links Between Formaldehyde and Cancer – ProPublica

An interesting review of the long process involved in bringing this important information to the public, this article also highlights the fact that many chemicals in use today have yet to be established as safe – or hazardous – to our health. Remember that small children and pets are even more susceptible to chemical exposures. Formaldehyde is commonly used in our homes and in our furniture and pressed wood products such as laminate flooring.

A study released last week by the National Cancer Institute strengthens the link [1] between exposure to formaldehyde and several forms of cancer, including leukemia. The 30-year study, which tracked the health of nearly 25,000 men exposed to the chemical in industrial plants, is likely to impact a long-awaited Environmental Protection Agency risk assessment of formaldehyde.
