Our chance to learn about the dioxin and arsenic contamination of the Koppers superfund site and neighborhood. One question to ask: Why has it taken more than 20 years to alert neighbors that children should not play in the area because of potentially dangerous contaminants?
A public open house to update residents on contamination in a neighborhood just west of the Koppers wood treatment plant will be held Thursday at Stephen Foster Elementary School.
The meeting is being held by the Alachua County Health Department to address concerns and questions from neighboring residents and businesses in the vicinity of the Koppers facility and to allow them an opportunity to receive the most up-to-date information available.
Attending will be representatives of the Florida Department of Health toxicology division, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Florida Department of Environmental Protection and Beazer East Inc., the party responsible for cleaning up the Koppers site.
Open House will be held Thursday, June 11, 4 – 8 p.m. at Stephen Foster Elementary School, 3800 NW 6 St. For more info call: 352-339-7930.
