Offshore drilling

Posted by Trish Riley, August 10, 2009

It’s really unbelievable and unconscionable that oil interests, politicians and lobbyists are pushing to drill for oil off of the Florida coastline. There is plenty of evidence that drilling contaminates water, beaches and wildlife. Furthermore, and really more poignant, we know that burning fossil fuels is killing the planet. Instead of desperately seeking more so we can perpetuate the problem, we should be applying ALL OF OUR ENERGY AND MONEY toward developing truly renewable energy resources: Solar and Wind (NOT nuclear).

Thanks to Roland Loog for this excellent article:

The Florida Energy Associates has hired prominent lobbyists to push, so far unsuccessfully, a bill allowing offshore drilling as close as 3 miles from shore.

…Should we place our pristine beaches at risk in order to feed our fossil fuel dependence?

…a knee-jerk reaction to our energy problem may leave a legacy of ruin on Florida’s beaches, marshlands and coastal communities.
