Stimulus Funds Report

Posted by Trish Riley, December 10, 2009

This makes for an interesting read. Thus far, Alachua County has received $104 million in “stimulus” funds. There are grants for homeless and low-income housing projects, road resurfacing, new buses, bike paths and weatherization. By far, most of the money goes for research projects at the University of Florida. Some – but not a lot – of the money seems destined to result in a more sustainable community. Hopefully that’s next on the agenda. Otherwise we’ve wasted a valuable opportunity to create a sustainable future while restoring our economy.
