UF faculty, conservation co-op work behind scenes to keep Florida green

“The Hawthorne Trail, along with many other trails and forested land in Florida, are managed by agencies that are members of Conserved Forest Ecosystems: Outreach and Research CFEOR, a cooperative of public and private organizations that own forest land in Florida.

“We have land, but we need good ideas,” Stein said of the project-proposal program.

While these are difficult economic times to be handing out money, Stein said it will be worthwhile.

“I hope that anybody who at least becomes aware of the cooperative will understand that this is a way for us to use taxpayer dollars in the most efficient way possible,” Houder said.

With all of the agencies combined under one force, they can create one large project for more results, as opposed to each agency conducting their own research on the same topic.”
