Massive aquarium in Dubai Mall springs leak causing evacuation of shoppers

Every time I see a photo of the towers of Dubai Leering over the ocean, I envision this oil-built city tumbling into the sea… I think of the ruins of the Coliseum in Rome, and I can see the future of our insane civilization.

“…an aquarium containing hundreds of sharks and thousands of sprung a leak.

Though Reuters quoted a police official downplaying the leak at the Dubai Mall as “a small problem,” it’s a second crack in the reputation of Emaar Properties in less than a month. The developer was also forced to close the observation deck at Dubai’s brand new Burj Khalifa, the world’s largest building, when an elevator failed and passengers were stranded 124 floors above the ground.

Like every major project in the United Arab Emirates built on oil proceeds, the Dubai Mall’s aquarium is one of the largest in the world, holding thousands of fish and sea mammals.”
