Thanks so much to Duane Olsen of Pizza Palace for hosting a great meeting last month – he’s invited us back anytime. Thanks, too, to Mike Amish and Jacob Cravey, who provided an interesting presentation on the Rain Barrels of Hope project that’s helping create housing for earthquake victims in Haiti. New Green Drinker Dylan Kempner, an environmental journalist who’s recently moved here from Boston, has volunteered to produce articles/videos about our local green businesses for GoGreenNation.org. Here’s his first – on Rain Barrels of Hope. Enjoy! Thanks Dylan!
This month, Green Drinks will meet at 6 p.m. Oct. 6 at Leonardo’s 706, 706 W. University Ave., in downtown Gainesville, (352-378-2001).
General Manager Aaron Newman promises that organic wines will be available by the glass for us (they’re usually by-the-bottle only) and he’s offering a three-course twilight dinner special for $14.95 if you order before 7 p.m. You’ll want to order before 7 anyway, since our speaker will begin then, following an hour of networking and getting to know others interested in sustainability.
Our guest speaker will be Mickie McKenzie, Director of Keep Alachua County Beautiful. She’ll tell us about several local initiatives she’s organized with local schools, city and community groups. And, if he isn’t too busy, Aaron Newman will tell us how Leonardo’s works toward becoming a more sustainable business.
As a special event, we will host a Cinema Verde (Gainesville’s second annual Environmental Film and Arts Festival) fund raiser following the presentations. Beginning at about 7:45, we’ll screen the film “Dirt,” one of our festival favorites. If you’d like to support the festival, please join us for this special presentation – donations of $5 or more requested. The film lasts 1 hour and 25 minutes.
Thank you all for your interest in all things green! Keep up the great work helping Gainesville to shine as the Emerald Jewel of Florida!
I look forward to seeing you next week….
