The Obama for America campaign organization this week distributed throughout Florida a two-paragraph news release highlighting the support the president had received from fellow Democrat Gainesville Mayor Craig Lowe in his campaign against Republican Mitt Romney.
Both Obama and Romney have made appearances this week in the state in an attempt to court Florida’s Hispanic voters.
Here is the Obama news release in its entirety:
“Gainesville, FL – Today, Gainesville Mayor Craig Lowe released the following statement in regards to Mitt Romney and Rick Scott’s attempt to DOWNPLAY good economic news in Florida:
‘Gainesville has worked hard over the last few years to expand our economy and create new jobs through innovation and collaboration. The American people deserve leaders who will root for economic growth, and President Obama has done just that.’”
Lowe’s remarks apparently were in response to published reports that a Romney adviser had told Gov. Scott to stop bragging about Florida’s economic performance and to emphasize that the state’s jobless rate could improve faster under Romney.
