Posted by Robyn, May 2, 2013

The City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department is proud to introduce Gainesville’s first Florida “Get to Know” nature-based youth art contest. “Get to Know” invites all youth (19 and younger) to get outdoors and “get to know” their natural world! Head to www.gettoknow.ca to submit art, writing, photography, video or music inspired by your outdoor experiences and you could win some wild prizes!

Join us for the kick-off celebration introducing this great program to Gainesville’s youth at the Santa Fe Teaching Zoo, which is located at 3000 NW 83rd St. in Gainesville, Saturday, May 18 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The contest runs until Friday, Nov. 1, 2013. A special celebration event will take place at the Historic Thomas Center Thursday, Dec. 5 for contest participants and winners.

We hope you will explore Gainesville’s natural treasures and express your passion for nature! For more information, please contact the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department at 352-334-5067.
