Removal of Rodman dam will quickly undo mistakes

The importance of that is actual construction and most of the restoration could be done quite easily and at about 20 percent of what the old state cost estimate was. For about $5 million, a 2,000-foot breach could be constructed in the dirt-fill portion of the dam, and the concrete and steel spillway left in place along with the recreational facilities (docks and boat ramp). Removal of the concrete and steel is not necessary for hydrologic restoration of the river. Opponents of restoration like to cite very high costs and hype the “destruction.” Nothing could be farther from the truth.
