October has three (3) important events in which we ask for everyone to participate. Two rallies and a meeting. Contact Maria 682-1878 or Susan 384-0111
Oct.24 9AM-1PM at 200 NW 23rd Ave at Koppers (high ranking polluter on EPA's Superfund Site list) main entrance. The members of Stephen Foster Neighborhood and anyone else who's concerned will be holding a demonstration by marching in front of Koppers, using the sidewalk and not embarking on anyone's private property, to gain public outcry. We need recognition of this major polluter in our area. Industrial waste they cause (arsenic, dioxin, creosote, chromated copper) which is seeping into Gainesville's drinking water must be removed. Signs to carry will be provided. Park at shopping center for Save-A-Lot nearby. No rehearsing, simply show-up ! We need people, any size, or shape. Please attend with us if you are concerned about our air, water and soil.
Oct 27 7:30PM organizational meeting for next Kopper's demonstration on the 29th of October. Meet at Parkview Baptist Church, 3403 NW 13th Street, Gainesville.
Oct. 29 4PM till end of Commission meeting. Public outcry to close Koppers is needed. Koppers must be removed which will happen only if we first achieve its closing. We sill demonstrate in front of building where joint meeting of City/County Commissions is held. This meeting will be attended by all the governmental departments of environment including City, County and Federal Gov't. A large impact is needed. Numbers count. Bring a friend ! Stand up for your rights! Be at County Administration building at University Ave and SE 1st Street where we will assemble at Bo Diddly Park across the street.
Close Koppers events sponsored by Stephen Foster Neighborhood Assn., Inc.
